burning out

I am burning out,...

And it's a good thing,...

There is only so much that the soil can give, and once given it risks being sterile forever, turning to nothing more than dust that gets swept up in the gentlest of breezes.

When it's all gone, all that will be left is the cold hard bedrock from which and into which nothing can take root.

So, a good burn out,...

A good slash and burn,...

Eyes stinging from sweat and bits of me sent airborne from swinging the machete,...

Survey the carnage,...

Step back,..

And toss the cigarette into the dried hollowed out husks that cover the field.

And watch the flames, bathe in the unbearable heat they give off,...

Knowing that when they eventualy go out,...

All will be well again.
